CALL WAITING SERVICE IN A TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORK

A method of operating a telecommunications network includes establishing a dial-up connection between a user data terminal and a data services provider and transmitting a data channel over the dial-up connection. When a call is made to the user by a third party, a call waiting signal is transmitted on the data channel to the user. The network m ay divert calls to the data services provider and the call waiting signal may be generated at the data services provider in response to the receipt of the call from the third party.
