A bar-code type microwave oven and a control method thereof are provided to acquire cooking information by searching the memory existing in a cooking set of a user through the use of identification code of food, if cooking information is not directly acquired from a two-dimensional bar-code. A bar-code type microwave oven comprises a bar-code scanner(220), a controller(240), and a memory(250). The bar-code scanner acquires bar-code information from the bar-code attached onto foodstuff. The controller acquires cooking information from the bar-code information, sets cooking condition based on the acquired cooking information, and performs food cooking operation. The memory stores cooking information for each food appropriate to cooking devices.
