The method involves utilizing light emitting diodes (100) of different colors, where the diodes provide a sequential illumination beam (102) for an imager (105) of an image projector. The illumination beam has sequences of monochromatic illumination sub-beams comprising four colors such as red, green, blue and yellow. Each sequence comprises pairs of clustered antagonist colors e.g. blue-yellow or yellow-blue and green-red or red-green. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an illumination system illuminating an imager of an image projector, comprising light emitting diodes (2) an image projector comprising an imager and an illumination system.
