Transthyretin was identified as a novel marker for assessing nephrotoxicity. Transthyretin accumulates in the kidney cortex in nephrotoxicity, where toxic effects characterized by marked degeneration/regeneration of proximal tubes are observed in an organism exposed to a toxic compound.
