An organic EL device (1) comprising at least a negative electrode (3), a light-emitting layer (4), a hole injection layer (5) and a positive electrode (6) sequentially formed on a substrate (2) in this order is disclosed wherein the hole injection layer (5) contains a metal oxide. Also disclosed is an organic electroluminescent device wherein at least a negative electrode, a light- emitting layer, a metal oxide layer and a positive electrode are sequentially formed on a substrate in this order. Examples of such a metal oxide include oxides of metals of may include oxides of group III- XIII metals in the long form periodic table. |
