A display device and a power control method thereof are provided to transceive data according to a specific communication protocol by connecting to the network and reduce power consumption by using a power saving mode. A network controller(35) transceives the data according to the communication protocol by connecting to the network. A data processor(40) processes the data transceived through the network controller and outputs a power saving switch signal. A controller(34) switches the display device to the preset power saving mode according to the received power saving mode switch signal in case that the power saving mode switch signal is received from the data processor. The display part includes an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) panel(33b) and a backlight unit(33c) lighting the LCD panel. The controller turns off the backlight unit according to the received power saving mode switch signal.
