A liquid crystal display(LCD) device and a driving method thereof are provided to enhance stability of a displayed image by preventing ESD(ElectroStatic Discharge) from affecting image signals of the LCD device. An LCD panel(110) includes plural unit pixels, which are arranged in 2D configuration at the intersections of plural gate and data lines. A gate driver(130) supplies a gate signal to the gate line. A data driver(120) supplies a data signal to the data line. A clock counter(150) receives a frame reference signal and a data clock from the outside and counts the number of data clocks during a unit frame period, which is defined by the reference signal. The clock counter compares the counted result with a predetermined reference value and determines whether the reference signal is defective. A timing controller(140) supplies a gate control signal and a data control signal to the gate and data drivers, respectively, correspondingly to the determined result from the clock counter.
