An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to improve light utilization efficiency and enhance the luminance of the LCD by forming a reflecting polarizer and a phase retardation layer between a lower polarizer and a back light unit. An LCD includes a display panel, a reflecting polarization plate(13), a phase retardation layer(14), and a back light unit(500). The reflecting polarization plate is located under the display panel, transmits a linearly polarized light in a first direction and reflects a linearly polarized light in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. The phase retardation layer is located under the reflecting polarization plate. The back light includes a light source providing light to the display panel and is arranged under the phase retardation layer. A first absorbing polarization plate is arranged between the display panel and the reflecting polarization plate. The transmission axis of the first absorbing polarization plate forms in the first direction. A second absorbing polarization plate is attached onto the display panel. The transmission axis of the second absorbing polarization plate forms in the second direction.
