The invention relates to a fillable cushioning element (30, 31) for protecting four corners, two edges and a surface of an essentially cuboid object (19) to be packed. Said cushioning element consists of at least two layers of plastic film and respectively comprises a recess close to the longitudinal ends thereof, enabling the cushioning element to be placed over at least one corner of the cuboid object. The inventive cushioning element is dimensioned in such a way that the longitudinal extension thereof between the two recesses corresponds to the length of the two edges to be protected plus the length of the diagonal of the surface to be protected. According to the inventive method and device for producing fillable cushioning elements, the welding is carried out by ultrasound, a sonotrode being rotated about an axis normal to the welding plane, for curved contours, in such a way that it is oriented tangentially to the contour. According to the inventive method for filling empty cushioning elements, at least one nozzle is arranged at a distance from an opening, especially a punched-out opening, in one of the plastic films of the cushioning element, diagonally to the surface of the cushioning element, and gas is blown out of said nozzle towards the opening. |
