An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a method for manufacturing the LCD are provided to simplify the manufacturing process of the LCD and improve the productivity of the LCD by electrically connecting upper and lower substrates without forming a silver dot. An LCD includes a first substrate and a second substrate, which face each other, a first black matrix(163a) formed on edge of the bottom face of the first substrate, a second black matrix(163b) connected to the first black matrix and formed in a lattice shape, red, green and blue color filter patterns(166a,166b,166c), and a plurality of conductive patterns(183) superposed on the first black matrix. The plurality of conductive patterns have a three-level structure including materials forming the red, green and blue color filter patterns and have a predetermined height from the surface of the first substrate. The LCD further includes a common electrode(170) covering the red, green and blue color filter patterns and the plurality of conductive patterns, gate lines and data lines formed on the second substrate, intersecting each other, to define a plurality of pixel regions, thin film transistors respectively formed in the pixel regions, pixel electrodes(150) respectively connected to the thin film transistors, and a liquid crystal layer(190) interposed between the pixel electrodes and the common electrode. An external common voltage is directly applied to the common electrode. |
