<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change a character input mode by using a character input key without requiring a special key for changing a character input mode in a character input device. <P>SOLUTION: A character inputted from an operation part is compared with a character-input mode changing character, which is already registered, on a display screen 30 to which a character is inputted, and the character-input mode is changed based on the matching in the comparison, and the inputted character is deleted from the display screen. The character-input mode change character is, for example, a keyword for displaying a candidate list including commands, as an option, for changing a character-input mode.
