PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing apparatus capable of preventing temperature rise on an end part while maintaining adhesion during paper conveying in a fixing unit using adhesive conveying and attaining energy saving and an image forming apparatus provided with the fixing apparatus. SOLUTION: A recording medium 28 is inserted between an endless fixing belt 23 and an endless pressure belt 25, a toner image formed on the surface of the recording medium is stuck to the fixing belt 23 and heated, and after discharging heat, the recording medium is separated from the fixing belt, so that even when toner to be melted at about 100°C is used, low viscosity toner can be prevented from being offset to the fixing belt 23 side and low-temperature fixing can be easily attained. If tensile force applied to the fixing belt 23 and the pressure belt 25 which are a pair of endless belts is too weak, floating may be easily generated on the adhesion surface, causing an undesirable state, and if the tensile force is too strong on the contrary, the belts may be easily extended or broken, causing an undesirable state.
