PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic masking device and an electronic masking device system capable of virtually masking partial character strings or the like in a document even in the case of a document which can not be marked. SOLUTION: The electronic masking device 10 comprises light transmission type electronic paper 14, a film-like scanner 15, a touch panel 16, and a control part 17. When the electronic masking device 10 is put on the document 11, the scanner 15 reads out a title 18 and a page number 19 as dot patterns and sends the read data to a CPU in the control part 17. The CPU recognizes the title 18 and the page number 19 and retrieves their corresponding mask data from a memory. When the mask data are stored in the memory, mask parts 12, 13 are displayed on the electronic paper 14.
