PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image signal control apparatus capable of preventing image burn by reducing display luminance and capable of effectively securing also display quality by removing the influence of contrast reduction due to the reduction of the display luminance.

SOLUTION: When the existence of a still image is detected on the basis of an image signal, the peak luminance of the image signal is reduced and a gamma value is set based on a curve (d) for increasing the gamma value as compared with the value of a curve (c) for a moving image in accordance with the increase of an average gradation value in an area where the average gradation value of the image signal expressing the still image is higher than a reference value (e) and reducing the gamma value as compared with the curve (c) in an area where the average gradation value is lower than the reference value (e).
