PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a reflection type light gap sensor with excellent temperature characteristics. SOLUTION: Emitted light from a light-emitting diode 1 is converted to linear rays with a constant pitch by a first grid 11, which irradiates a reflection surface 5. Reflected light from the reflection surface 5 is limited by a second grid 12, which forms an image on a third grid 13. An image pitch varies as a gap between a detector 6 and the reflection surface 5 varies. A phase change with the change of the image pitch is detected through the third grid 13.
