PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to detect a stable measuring value by the strain gauge bonded to a load cell without receiving the effect of a hydrogen gas in a testing machine of mechanical characteristics for measuring the load applied to a test piece using the strain gauge bonded to the load cell by arranging the test piece under a high-pressure gas atmosphere containing the hydrogen gas to apply load to the test piece. SOLUTION: In the testing machine 1 of mechanical characteristics constituted so that a high-pressure container, into which a high-pressure gas containing the hydrogen gas is introduced, is provided and a test load detector 18 equipped with the load cell 7 applying the load to the test piece 11, of which the mechanical characteristics are evaluated, and is provided with the strain gauge 10 for detecting the load applied to the test piece 11, is provided in the high-pressure container, the insulating layer of the strain gauge 10 comprises ceramics.
