PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder which can prevent uneven application and excessive application as a result of an overflow of a surplus application liquid in the width direction even when a recording medium of a different width is used, by a simple and inexpensive constitution in the recorder which has an application roller that applies a processing liquid for well forming a recording image to the recording medium. SOLUTION: A transfer width R of the processing liquid from an absorptive member 51 to the application roller 22 is made narrower than a width P of the recording medium 13 and wider than a recording region C. A plurality of parts different in transfer width are provided in the absorptive member. The site of the absorptive member which comes into contact with the application roller is changed according to the width of the recording medium, whereby the transfer width of the processing liquid to the application roller is changed.
