PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To monitor surroundings by utilizing a slave unit with a camera even if it is not used for answering a visitor. SOLUTION: The slave unit 1 with the camera is installed in an entrance of a residence 27 and a master unit with a monitor is installed in the residence 27. A doorphone mode when answering the visitor and a monitoring camera mode when using the slave unit 1 with the camera as a monitoring camera are set and in the doorphone mode, an imaging range A to image the visitor is set. In the monitoring camera mode, an imaging range B to image the surroundings is set. When there is no visitor, the monitoring camera mode is executed, the camera picks up the surroundings and periodically records video images. When the visitor comes, the slave unit 1 with the camera is switched from the monitoring camera mode to the doorphone mode and displays the visitor on the monitor of the master unit.
