PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stem for an optical semiconductor element which can obtain heat radiation properties sufficiently and can be manufactured at a low cost. SOLUTION: A heat radiator 20 is constituted of a metal solid body which comprises an outside side face A and a mounting side face B for mounting an optical semiconductor element 5 on an opposing side to the outside side face A, and the heat radiator 20 is stood upright on an insulating eyelet 100 constituting a substrate. The heat radiator 20 has an arcuate side face A2 in at least a part of the outside side face A, and further, a lead is provided so as to extend under the insulating eyelet 100.
