The letter box or letter box system has a housing comprising an opening slot (12), which is closed by a cover (14) that is deviatable around a swivel axis (18). An interlock (24) consisting of a metal or plastic is provided at a rear side of the cover, where the cover is locked into a closing position by using the interlock and the interlock is a rotatable or sliding bolt. The interlock blocks in its end positions automatically and the cover has a retainer or a section for the interlock.
