The method making a direct gross estimation in a branch with a special correlation and using originally received signals. Channel estimation is accomplished in another branch with the originally received signals to implement a standard correlation. A transmitted signal replica in the latter branch is transferred through a noise-free model channel and is correlated by the special correlation. Difference between delay values produced by the correlations is subtracted from the result of direct gross estimate. An independent claim is also included for a navigation receiver for executing a method of reducing errors produced by multi-path reception in a receiver of a satellite navigation system e.g. global positioning system (GPS) or Galileo.
