<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for controlling two beams of nearly orthogonal polarized light within a fiber for a heterodyne interference method. <P>SOLUTION: A light source to generate the two light beams varying in polarization states and light frequencies is included in the polarized light control system. The polarization states of the two light beams are changed by a polarization states modulator. A first beat signal is generated from the two light beams passing a first polarizer by a first detecting optical path. A second beat signal is generated from the two beams passing a second polarizer directed nearly orthogonal to the first polarizer by a second detecting optical path. An amplitude beat signal is generated from the first and second beat signals by an amplitude detector. The system next makes determination as to how to adjust the polarization states modulator in order to generate the first and second light beams of the desired polarization state by using the amplitude beat signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
