PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of preventing deterioration in image quality when enlarging a part of a display screen, and capable of shortening a time to be needed for displaying an image. SOLUTION: The apparatus comprises an imaging unit, a display unit for displaying an image indicated by image data, an angle of view acquiring unit for acquiring an angle of view in response to an operation of the angle of view about the image of subject light, and a partial area control unit for designating a partial area responding to the acquired angle of view as the partial area. The imaging unit is designed to produce image data for indicating an image of focused subject light, by acquiring a pixel value from each pixel after the subject light being focused on a light receiving surface on which pixels are arranged; to perform thinning of pixels by a first thinning rate, when a partial area is to be designated relating to the whole area of the light receiving surface and pixel values are to be acquired in outside of the partial area; to acquire pixel values from the residual pixels; to perform thinning of pixels by a second thinning rate which is permitted to be lower than the first thinning rate or not, to perform thinning within the partial area; and to acquire pixel values from the residual pixels which are permitted to be the whole pixels.
