PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a hole transport agent having improved photoreceptor characteristics and to provide a method for producing an electrophotographic photoreceptor using the hole transport agent. SOLUTION: The method for producing the hole transport agent composed of a tertiary amine compound synthesized by a coupling reaction of a secondary amine compound with a halogenated stilbene derivative or a halogenated aryl derivative is provided. The method for producing the hole transport agent comprises the following steps (a) and (b). The method for producing the electrophotographic photoreceptor further comprises the following step (c). The step (a) comprises carrying out the coupling reaction of the secondary amine compound with the halogenated stilbene derivative or halogenated aryl derivative using a palladium catalyst and synthesizing the tertiary amine compound, the step (b) comprises subjecting the tertiary amine compound to a contact treatment with a base and providing the hole transport agent and the treating step (c) comprises mixing at least the hole transport agent obtained in the steps with a binding resin and a charge generator, forming the resultant mixture and thereby affording the electrophotographic photoreceptor having a photoreceptor layer.
