PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moisture retention plant extract continuing the moisture retention effect for a long period and provide an external preparation, a cosmetic product, a bathing agent and a detergent composition. SOLUTION: The invention provides a moisture retention plant extract composed of an extract of a mixture of Angelica acutiloba, Rehmannia glutinosa, Paeonia lactiflora, Cnidium officinale, Tribulus terrestris, Saposhnikovia divaricata, Polygonum multiflorum, Schizonepeta tenuifolia, Astragalus membranaceus and Glycyrrhiza glabra and a cosmetic product, a bathing agent and a detergent composition containing the extract. The product obtained by decocting the above crude drugs at a specific ratio has a composition same as that of a Chinese herbal drug Toukiinshi. The extract of the mixture of these crude drugs contains a moisture retention plant component to continue the moisture retention effect over a long period and has remarkable effect for the prevention, amelioration and improvement of dry skin, roughened skin, cracking, chapped skin, dandruff, itchiness and inflammatory diseases by external use, the prevention of dry hair, loosened hair, split hair and cut hair and the application of luster to the hair.
