PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain (R)-2-methyl-4, 4, 4-trifluorobutyl amine useful for an intermediate for producing carbamoyl derivatives (Jap. patent official publication 1996-22849) useful as a pharmaceutical agent and provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: (R)-2-methyl-4, 4, 4-trifluorobutyl amine or its salt and the method for producing (R)-2-methyl-4, 4, 4-trifluorobutyl amine are claimed. The method for producing (R)-2-methyl-4, 4,4-trifluorobutyl amine includes following processes: (1) a process for producing (R)-2-methyl-4, 4, 4-trifluorobutyl amide by converting (R)-2-methyl-4, 4, 4-trifluoro butyric acid to its acid chloride, subsequently reacting the acid chloride with ammonia and (2) a process for reducing (R)-2-methyl-4, 4, 4-trifluorobutyl amide obtained by the aforesaid process.
