PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel capable of improving contrast. SOLUTION: The PDP 200 is provided with a scanning electrode 213, a common electrode 212, and a data electrode 222, and each unit cell 240 of the PDP 200 has a display cell 241 and an auxiliary cell 242. The display cell 241 carries out sustaining discharge for display and the auxiliary cell 242 is mutually conducted with the display cell 241 and carries out preliminary discharge and selective discharge. The display cell 241 is constructed so as not to emit light by discharge at the time of selective discharge. Thereby, contrast can be improved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
