PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acrylonitrile based precursor fiber (raw fiber) for carbon fiber with small change of strength and elongation rate, and to provide a method for producing an acrylonitrile based polymer solution for carbon fiber imparting the carbon fiber with excellent mechanical properties (strength) and suppressing change of strands strength. SOLUTION: The invention relates to the acrylonitrile based polymer solution for carbon fiber comprising 18-22 wt.%. of a copolymer composed of≥90 wt.%. of acrylonitrile and a vinyl based monomer copolymerizable with the same in a solvent, wherein the rate of transmission of light measured in a cell with 1cm of thickness is≥60% using a light with 450nm of wave length and≥90% by using a light with 550nm of wave length.
