PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gateway with a novel configuration whereby high speed processing and assurance of communication quality can be attained not by software processing of a CPU but by self-routing processing by hardware and to provide a processing method in the gateway. SOLUTION: The gateway is configured to include: a plurality of physical termination drivers; protocol controllers; a plurality of search engines each with a function of acquiring information corresponding to a frame ID of a frame processed by the protocol controllers from a destination searching table; a plurality of frame converters each having a segment processing function of dividing the frame received from the search engines into fixed length cells and a reassemble processing function of reassembling the fixed length cells received from a self-routing module into frames; and the self-routing module connected to each frame converter and including a switching function of the fixed length cells.
