PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift operating device capable of smoothly performing the range selection at an AT side when a shift lever is operated from a neutral position (P position) to an R position. SOLUTION: When the shift lever is shift-operated from a first shift position (P position) to a second shift position (R position) through a third shift position (N position), a control device 2 measures the passing time of the shift lever at the third shift position (N position) based on the detection signal from an N position detection sensor 17. When it is determined that the passing time is within a predetermined time, the control device actuates an electric actuator 7 so as to switch from a first range (P range) to a second range (R range) without selecting a third range (N range) corresponding to the third shift position (N position).
