A protective device (10) for a needle assembly. The protective device (10) comprises an elongated member (12) having a distal end (14) a a second end (16) ; a cap (18), coupled to the distal end of the elongated member (12), including a recess (20) therein for receiving the distal end of the cannula; a hub coupler (22), coupled to the second end (16) of the elongated member (12), for coupling to the hub of the needl assembly; wherein the protective device (10) is dimensioned so that when the distal end of the cannula is positioned in the recess (20) of the cap (18), the hub coupler (22) is couplable to the hub of the needle assembly. A method of using the protective needle device (10) with a needle assembly is also provided and comprises the steps of positioning the distal end of the cannula in the recess (20) of the cap (18); rotating the protective device (10) and the needle assembly towards each other so as to bring the hub coupler into close proximity with the hub and coupling the hub coupler (22) to the hub. |
