The vacuum in each suction zone can be controlled separately. Each suction zone is connected to a vacuum source via a control valve. A suction box (5) is located in the peripheral part of the suction roll not in contact with the web. The suction box has separately controllable suction zones, preferably corresponding in position and extent to those of the suction roll. The blower hood comprises several blowing zones that are controllable with respect to air pressure and/or temperature, preferably arranged transverse to the machine direction. The suction roll and/or blower hood comprises several sections arranged transverse to the machine direction. The sections correspond to the suction zones or blowing zones. The sections comprise several elements welded together. The sections are screwed together. The screws of the suction roll are located near its outer periphery. The inner cylinder has sealable mounting openings. The diameter of the suction roll is more than 4 m. |
