Provided are a rubber composition for a tire tread which is improved in abrasion resistance, wet traction and rolling resistance, and a tire containing the tread comprising the composition. The rubber composition comprises 5-30 phr of silica carbide based on 100 phr of a rubber material. Preferably the silicon carbide has a particle size of 0.5-10 micrometers and a specific gravity of 2.7-3.2. Optionally the composition comprises further carbon black, silica or a mixture of carbon black and silica as a reinforcing agent, and the content of carbon black is 20-40 phr and the content of silica is 15-25 phr based on 100 phr of a rubber material. |
