<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set the boundaries of object tissues accurately in ultrasonographic images. <P>SOLUTION: Initial end points A, B are set by an initial end point setting part (S201). An image data acquiring part reads pixel data on a straight line connecting the point A and the point B from a memory in an image forming part (S202). A smoothing processing part performs smoothing processing on the loaded luminance values (linear data) on the straight line (S203). An index value calculating part performs linear first order differential filter processing on the linear data after the smoothing (S204). A weighting processing part performs weighting processing corresponding to a distance from the end points on the linear data after the differential processing (S205). A final end point setting part detects pixel data where a differential value is the maximum in the respective regions in the neighborhood of the point A and the point B, and sets the final end points at the positions of the detected pixel data as the corrected end points (S206).
