PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PDP having high contrast and high luminance. SOLUTION: A front substrate 20 with at least black stripes 25 used as light shielding parts and a dielectric layer 26 covering the black stripes 25 formed thereon and a back substrate with at least barrier ribs formed thereon are arranged oppositely to each other; thereby discharge spaces partitioned by the barrier ribs are formed inside; first phosphor layers for emitting red, green and blue light rays are formed in the respective discharge spaces; at least a part of the back substrate forming the discharge spaces is colored in emission colors of the first phosphor layers; and second phosphor layers 28 emitting light in the same color as that of at least one of the first phosphor layers are formed on the dielectric layer 26 corresponding to the black stripes 25.
