PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a apparatus to drive a plasma display panel (PDP), in which heat is reduced by preventing a current generated by sustain discharge from affecting a circuit element. SOLUTION: The display panel driving apparatus for defining a discharge cell in an intersecting area between first and second electrodes intersecting with each other and applying respective driving signals to the first and second electrodes of the display panel on which discharge is generated in the discharge cell by prescribed voltages respectively applied to the first and second electrodes and an image is expressed is provided with; an address pulse application part for applying an address pulse to the second electrode during an address period for selecting a discharge cell to be discharged out of the all discharge cells, and a switch for switching currents to prevent a current generated by a sustain pulse applied to the first electrode from flowing into the address pulse application part.
