The invention relates to a method for producing carbon nanotubes consisting a) in producing a viscous paste from a catalytic support mixture and a catalyst salt dissolved in water, b) in applying said viscous paste on an inert support by thin layers in such a way that a thin catalytic layer is formed, c) in drying and activating said thin catalytic layer in a furnace at a temperature greater than 600 °C and d) in bringing said thin catalytic layer into contact with a gaseous carbon source at a temperature ranging from 650 to 750 °C for producing nanotubes.
