<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve the optimum gradation reproducibility in both scanning modes at the time of one-side scanning mode and at the time of both-side scanning mode, in an image forming apparatus in which a both-way scanning mode of making a light beam from a light source execute scanning in both directions of a forward path and a backward path, and a one side scanning mode of making the light beam execute scanning only in either one direction can be changed over. <P>SOLUTION: Gradation patch images are formed concerning each of the one side scanning mode and the both-side scanning mode, and the gradation reproduction characteristics of each of both the scanning modes are determined from the results of the concentration detection of the gradation patch images. In performing a latent image forming operation, the latent image formation is performed by using the gradation characteristics determined relating to each scanning mode. The optimum gradation reproducibility in both the scanning modes at the time of the one-side scanning mode and at the time of both-side scanning mode is thus achieved. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
