SECONDARY AIR SUPPLY DEVICE IN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend life of an air pump by reducing chances of air pump operation when an open/close valve is opened to judge whether a pressure sensor functions normally or not, in a secondary air supply device of an internal combustion engine.

SOLUTION: In the secondary air supply device of the internal combustion engine equipped with the air pump 11a, a secondary air supply passage 11b connecting the air pump and an engine air exhaust system 7a, the open/close valve 11d provided at the secondary air supply passage and the pressure sensor 11e provided at the secondary air supply passage between the air pump and the open/close valve, the open/close valve is opened to introduce exhaust gas during engine start or immediately after start completion to an upstream side of the open/close valve at the secondary air supply passage and whether the pressure sensor functions normally or not is determined based on output from the pressure sensor at the time.
