PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tracking equalizer control method suitable to an optical disk device for reproducing a signal recorded in an optical disk by an optical pickup. SOLUTION: When a reproduction speed is changed in the state of reproducing a signal recorded in an optical disk, it is detected that whether or not the level of a tracking error signal is within a predetermined range. When the level is within the predetermined range, the characteristic change of a tracking equalizer circuit for correcting the frequency of the tracking error signal is performed.
