摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing optical element which improves the productivity by reducing a damage to a mold during press molding and is capable of manufacturing a low-cost optical element, and to provide a projection display device with an optical element obtained by the manufacturing method, as a polarization element. SOLUTION: A metallic glass layer 2 is disposed on a substrate 11A in the amorphous state. Then, the metallic glass layer 2 is heated to a glass transition temperature or more and, in the state that the metallic glass layer 2 is not crystallized, the mold 100 having a predetermined rugged shape is pressed on the metallic glass layer 2. In such a state, the metallic glass layer 2 is hardened, thereby, a shape corresponding to the predetermined rugged shape is transferred and the rugged shape exhibiting an optical performance is afforded to the metallic glass layer 2.
