PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine capable of executing a cutting operation in the vicinity of the position of a needle insertion point by improving a cutting knife mechanism to achieve quite a narrow seam allowance, and a sewing machine achieving stitches excellent in both sealing performance and adhesion performance by reducing the feeding pitch without sacrificing productivity. SOLUTION: A fixed blade in the lower side is omitted, and a movable knife capable of being moved vertically in the upper side is attached to the tip of a needle bar to arrange the movable knife in the close vicinity of the needle position. At the same time, object matters to be stitched are retained in the close vicinity of a section to be stitched, and thus a seam is formed by feeding the object to be sewn by means of a retainer, the needle piercing the object matters and a feed gear.
