A geosynthetic reinforcement (10) comprising a container (12) formed of semipermeable material (40) mutually conformed with a portion of earthen material (42) contained therein. A structural member (14) such as a geogrid may engage (e.g. frictional) the container (12) and extend therefrom to engage and support a structure such as a retaining wall (136), earthen slope (140), etc. Accordingly, the container (12) may function as an anchor to the structure (136, 140). Due to the containment provided by the container (12), the physical characteristics of the earthen material (42) therewithin become less important. Thus, low quality fills such as fine- grained fill or fill with a high moisture content may be used in structural applications. If desired, more than one container (12) and structural member (14) may be incorporated. Containers (12) may be stacked, positioned side-by-side, positioned end-to-end, etc. Structural members (14) may be incorporated as needed to adequate support the structure (136, 140). Drain layers (16) may be incorporated to control moisture. In some cases, containers (12) may comprise geotextile tubes. |
