The invention relates to a method for the flexible representation of a sequence using a neural network, said method providing neurones that form sequence pools. Each sequence pool represents a respective step of the sequence. The pools compete with one another and an active pool is the respective winner. In addition, the sequence pools are activated when the sequence is imported in order. The activation intensity of a sequence pool reduces during its active period and increases during its inactive period. The neural network automatically repeats the sequence and the respective sequence pool with the earliest activation is always the winner of the competition.
