MANUFACTURING METHOD OF PURIFIED ACTIVATED CARBON

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which purified activated carbon is manufactured by removing sulfur portion from activated carbon obtained by firing a natural organic base material.

SOLUTION: The manufacturing method is carried out by bringing the activated carbon obtained by firing the natural organic base material into contact with an aqueous solution of an inorganic acid under reduced pressure. The inorganic acid is preferably hydrochloric acid or nitric acid. The concentration of the inorganic acid in the aqueous solution is ≥0.5 mol/L expressed in terms of proton of the inorganic acid. The aqueous solution of the inorganic acid contains a surface tension reducing agent such as alcohols. The activated carbon is dipped into the aqueous solution of the inorganic acid to be brought into contact with the inorganic acid under ≤0.06 MPa absolute pressure at 0-100°C. As a result, the activated carbon in which content of sulfur portion is ≤60 ppm expressed in terms of sulfur atom part per million by mass.
