<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus which can be easily upgraded from a monochrome image forming apparatus and further which can be miniaturized. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with: an extension unit 3 having a unit housing in which an image forming functional component is mounted and having a projecting part 4 which allows at least a part of the image forming functional component to project to the outside of the unit housing; and a base unit 1 to/from which the extension unit 3 is attachably/detachably attached, which has a unit housing in which the image forming functional component is mounted, and which has a receiving space part 2 capable of receiving the projecting part 4 of the extension unit 3 in the unit housing when the extension unit 3 is attached. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
