PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make antenna alignment easy by producing a continuous tone or a tone burst, corresponding respectively to appropriate alignment or inappropriate alignment. SOLUTION: An antenna aligning apparatus sets the elevation of an antenna 7, in accordance with the location of the receiving site. Thereafter, the azimuth of the antenna 7 is aligned coarsely, by first rotating the antenna in small increments to find a region in which the continuous tone is produced. During this coarse alignment procedure, a tuner 317 of a satellite broadcasting receiver 17 attempts to find a tuning frequency, at which demodulation and error correction is possible. If no appropriate frequency is found, after a range of frequencies have been searched, a tone burst or beep is produced. The beep prompts the user to rotate the antenna 7 by yet another slight increment. Once the continuous tone has been produced, a fine alignment procedure is initiated in which the antenna is rotated to find the boundaries of an azimuth arc, through which the continuous tone is produced. Then, the antenna is set so that it is positioned approximately midway between the two boundaries of the azimuth arc. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
