PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vitrified bond grindstone which effectively grinds even a difficult-to-machine material without frequent dressing, to thereby protect a workpiece from degrading, and to provide a method of producing the vitrified bond grindstone. SOLUTION: According to the method, flowable abrasive grain 2 which is obtained by kneading a vitrified bond material containing at least SiO<SB>2</SB>as a main ingredient, an organic bond material, abrasive grain, and liquid together, is impregnated into a sponge member 1 formed of a resin, and the organic bond material and the sponge member are oxidized, followed by sintering the abrasive grain with the vitrified bond material, to thereby form the vitrified bond grindstone having pores. By virtue of formation of the pores, the vitrified bond grindstone easily generates a self-edging function, and therefore frequent dressing is dispensed with, to thereby improve the productivity. Thus by using the vitrified bond grindstone, a ground surface of the workpiece is free from surface burning or tears, and the quality of the workpiece is improved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
