PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document management system capable of particularizing contents of documents and classifying the documents, and a document management method. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 12 prints (records) a document main body 30 with an ID 32 to a recording medium 3 in accordance with document data and the ID received from a server 10. The server 10 stores the output document data and ID to the image forming apparatus 12 in cross-reference with each other. When an abort unit 2 reads the ID 32 and the document main body 30 from the recording medium 3, the server 10 restores the stored document data in accordance with the ID 32 read by the abort unit 2 and compares the document read by the abort unit 2 with the document generated from the restored document data. Then the server 10 discriminates whether or not the document read by the abort unit 2 is coincident with the document generated from the restored document data. The abort unit 2 classifies the documents in the recording medium 3 into those to be stored in a storage section 214 and those to be aborted by a slit unit 24 in accordance with the result of discrimination of coincidence of the documents by the server 10.
