PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a larger magnetoresristance change rate in both of an in-plane recording system and of a vertical recording system. SOLUTION: The magnetoresistance effect element 2 comprises a first magnetic sensing film 9 for detecting an external field generated from a recording medium and directed in parallel to a medium surface of the recording medium; and a second magnetic sensing film 7 for detecting an external field generated from the recording medium, and directed perpendicularly to the medium surface of the recording medium.
